Rain Garden Restoration and Green School Yard Planning
We're working with teachers, students and parents to transform this unsightly rain garden to a butterfly garden that will beautify the school grounds and enrich the learning environment.
New plantings will increase the rain garden's ability to slow down stormwater run off and use excess nitrogen.
Garden restoration will be done using plants native to Maryland, providing much needed habitat for birds and butterflies.
Rain Barrels and Interpretive Signage
Cub Scout Pack 1786 installed new rain barrels on the Dynard STEM Lab downspouts.
The barrels are used to harvest rain water for school Victory Gardens. During the summer break, the barrel over-flow will be diverted to the rain garden.
Rain barrels are an easy way to slow run-off, reduce stream sedimentation and conserve our aquifers.
Permanent interpretive signage to explain these “Best Management Practices” will be developed and installed in the school’s outdoor classroom area.
